The Scotland team is heading back home to us this week. Here's a second update, written by our brother Phil C., reflecting on what it's been like to do life with the brethren at Lochee Baptist Chapel.
This past Sunday, we got to worship and fellowship with our brothers and sisters at Lochee Baptist Church. Seeing this young church gather and live in community together with a mission of sharing the Gospel with their community was truly a blessing. The morning consisted of corporate worship with Pastor Jon preaching on Zaccheus, followed by lunch with the congregation. After an afternoon break, we headed back for an evening worship and prayer meeting where Paul shared from the Gospel of John, and Stephen shared his testimony. We prayed for LBC and MGC, and fellowshipped some more.
What struck me was how much time the LBC team spend together, not only working together doing church things, but also supporting and serving one another, enabling one another to serve better. The way they attempt to engage the community is a great example and reminder of how a community of faith should be reaching the unsaved. I had the opportunity to sit next to a man battling alcohol addiction to show him where to find the bible verses we were reading. This made me reflect on all the time and effort the LBC team put in to get him there, which may have consisted of visiting the community center where he hung out regularly, spending time with him during drop-in hours at the church to invite him to bible study, and hanging out at Pastor Andrew's home for some football and fish and chips. The LBC team strives to love Jesus and obey him by loving people the best way they know how: giving the Gospel.
